St. Andrew’s Day Quiz

Szerző: | 2018. dec. 7 | Aktualitások

On Friday, 30th December 2018 students from almost every secondary school class took part in a great quiz connected to Scotland and also some cultural links to Hungary. The idea was to raise interest in cultural aspects of English connected to a particular country where English is spoken. Topics like history, science, geography, civilisation, sport and the arts (including film and TV) were chosen to provide a school-based theme as well as general knowledge. Questions ranged from ‘Who was William Wallace?’ to knowing the difference between geographical facts about Scotland and Hungary. Mr. Lajtai aka ‘Tanár Úr’ also provided two ‘rounds of Kahoot focusing on pop culture and trivia about films and celebrities, of which the teachers team almost won!

The whole event was made special by the fact that so many students took part (full list below) and even some supporters from 9a and 11a were present. Everyone entered into the spirit of the competition and we were all rewarded with deep-fried Mars bars and tea with milk, which disappeared very quickly.

This is the third time such an event like this has taken place as we previously had Burns Night, 25th January using the same format of Kahoot and Jeopardy to challenge pupils’ knowledge of all thing Scottish. We hope to continue with similar TV type quiz shows for other countries too in the future. Many thanks goes to all teachers involved, for their meticulous preparation and support.

So, who won? Well, every year a different class wins, it seems, which makes the competition even more exciting. This year the winners were from 9.a group 2 headed by Dániel Muzsnay, who was probably the best competitor, Alexa Klemanovics, Philip Kádár and Csenge Cseperkáló with an incredible amount of points. The second and third place went to 9.b with Márton Doszpot, Liza Lamen and Áron Péli (second place) as well as Tamás Korpás, Levente Faragó and Marcell Moor (third place).
